registration
The Register has been in existence since 1997 and was previously known as the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP). It is governed by the Register Advisory Board. The Register is a list of National Counselling & Psychotherapy (NCPS) members who have met the high standards for registration.
NCPS's register has been accredited under a scheme set up by the Department of Health and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament. All registrants are bound by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy. Andy has been in clinical practice for over 26 years and is a senior registered Psychotherapist with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society NCPS . Andy abides by the ethical practice standards of this governing body.
In addition, all registrants are required to be in regular clinical supervision and to undertake appropriate continuing professional development. Some registrants have also sought a higher level of quality assurance through the NCPS accreditation schemes and those members are clearly marked as 'accredited' and 'senior' on the Register.
Professional Standards Authority (PSA)
In 2013 the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) launched the Accredited Register Network in conjunction with the Department of Health. Their aim is to protect the public by independently assessing organisations that register practitioners (such as professional bodies).
In order to be recognised as an Accredited Register, the organisation has to meet a number of criteria and be re-assessed yearly to ensure that it continues to meet the PSA's standards. This demonstrates a commitment to good practice and regulated professional standards, particularly concerning the protection of the public. The directory only lists therapists who are registered with a recognised professional body. This will give you peace of mind that you are contacting a professional, experienced and qualified therapist.
Andy is dedicated to promoting better mental health and increasing awareness and understanding, with the aim to change how we think and act about mental health.
